Keys To Successful Crate Training For Dogs
Dog crates make it very easier for dog owners to house-train the furry pal. There are different positives that can come up when your pooch learns crate training successfully. For shy dogs it works as a refuge when a big noisy party is going on. During car travels, crates can provide protection to the tyke in cases of accidents. There are certain hotels in our country that make it mandatory for doggy to be crated when their owners leave the room. This will only happen when your furry pal enjoys and loves his crate.
Remember, a doggy with no difficult past is better because the first impressions are always better to be created than to turn around a bad one. If you have adopted a new puppy take time before you crate train him. The very first thing that you need to keep in mind is to pick the right crate according to the size of your pal.
The crate should be big enough for the tyke to move around. He should also be able to stretch. Always make it an enticing thing by having a comfortable bed in the crate. That way the pooch would be able to associate positive things with the crate.
In case, your furry companion is a chewy type, get a chew-resistant bed. Have soft and safe chewable toys in the crate which the doggy can play around without any fuss. Set up the crate in a place where you usually hang out. It can be in front of your sofa where you watch TV, or by your bed. You can move it from one to another or can get multiple crates according to your convenience.
Once your doggy starts loving the crate it can be his favorite hide out place where he can remain aloof if required. Just ensure that you set good associations with the crate so that the doggy thinks that good things would happen to him whenever he is inside the crate.
The easiest way to make your tyke love the crate is by opening it and available in a place where the doggy relaxes and rests. Put a treat inside to lure the pet to go inside the crate. When he gets in the crate, put another treat to encourage him to stay there longer. If you have put in a comfy bed in the crate, if he rests on it praise him unconditionally. After some practice, make him eat his meals in the crate. These things will make him associate positive things when he happens in the crate.
If this does not work, then spread peanut butter on the crate wall or keep a food-stuffed toy in the crate and then close the door. Ensure that the doggy is not in the crate. When he smells the good aroma in the crate, he will try to get in the crate. Don't give in to his demands, in first go. Let him be a weeny bit frustrated and then open the door. This way he will be happy to stay in the crate for a longer time.
Remember, it can take some time before your doggy starts associating positive things with the crate. So, train him and one day he will enjoy going inside the crate on his own!!!
